From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This means them few options but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
